The proximity switch, also known as inductive sensor, proximity sensor, or contactless switch, from Festo with type number SIEN-M8B-PO-S-L is an electrical switch for the contactless detection of objects. It has the dimensions 5 x 1 x 1 cm and a weight of 0.017 kg. Proximity switches detect objects contactlessly, based on changes in the electromagnetic field or other physical principles, and are used for precise position and limit switch detection as well as for automatic control in industrial applications. Typical applications include precise detection of workpieces on conveyor belts in automation technology or monitoring the end position of machine parts in mechanical engineering.
